Acworth Election: Brett North vs. Bob Weatherford

Submitted by on October 25, 2011 – 8:18 pmNo Comment |

Brett North

BRETT NORTH:
I’d like to thank Northside News for the opportunity to introduce myself to the voters of Acworth.
I’m an Atlanta native and my wife of 32 years, Ann and I live in the Blue Springs subdivision.  I currently serve on the City of Acworth’s Planning and Zoning Board.  Other areas of service include serving as the president of the Blue Springs Homeowners Association; being a charter member and serving on the Board of Director’s at One Heart Church.  I have served on the mission field extensively in Eastern Europe and South America and am the founder of Tetelestai Missions Ministry, tmministry.org.
I served on the steering committee for the last five year update to the City of Acworth’s Comprehensive Plan, and on the stakeholders committee that studied the transportation needs in Cobb County for the next twenty five years.
With more than 30 years of experience in business management and small business ownership, I am currently employed by LIFE University in Marietta as Manager of their Center for Health and Optimum Performance.
I am fiscally and socially conservative, believing that elected officials are to be servant leaders, not politicians.  If elected, I will hold myself to that standard.  You will always be able to count on me to do what I believe is right.
Keeping taxes low and maintaining the quality of life that we have come to love and expect in Acworth will be top priorities for me.
I am making every attempt to touch as many voters as I can personally.  Hopefully I will show up at your front door to personally ask you for your vote before Election Day.  If I miss you, please know that I am honored at the opportunity to run for this office and that if you choose me as your next Alderman for Post 3, I will work hard for you and I will make you proud!  I’d really appreciate your vote.
Please visit my website, brettnorth.com and please feel free to call me on my cell phone at 678-301-9737 if you have any questions about my candidacy.

Bob Weatherford

BOB WEATHERFORD (Incumbent):
Experience does matter and the major question is are we better off in Acworth than we were ten years ago.  I believe so with 55% growth, new businesses and restaurants and infrastructure. A Police Department just named the top one in Georgia and Parks & Rec named the same last year!!  We are a team and we need to maintain that team to continue the progress.
The main issue is maintaining the quality of life and services that our citizens have come to know and expect with the obvious financial problems that face every local government in this economy. We’ve done a good job though, as we started cutting our budgets four years ago by 10 percent, 8 percent, 7 percent and now 5 percent, so it’s all about trying to maintain our quality of service without layoffs or reductions in service.
Tax rates are lower and our fund balances and reserves are higher than they have been since 1990.  We continue to be the fastest growing and most respected city in Cobb.  With the movie theaters and more family owned restaurants,  Acworth continues to prosper and grow.
To me it is a very simple decision.  Either you are happy with the changes in Acworth over the past 10 years with the quality growth, new restaurants, a vibrate downtown, professional police department and a Parks & Recreation Department that is second to none or you are not!
I would appreciate your vote and support on November 8th.   My most important objective will be to continue to provide leadership and open communication among the Board and all of the citizens of Acworth in an effort to embrace growth while maintaining a small town atmosphere.
I have many years of technology and sales experience having worked for several Fortune 500 companies such as STK, amdahl and i2. I also bring 25 years of law enforcement experience as a certified Reserve Police Officer in several states over my career. My unique blend of sales, technology and law enforcement is an asset to my elected position.
