Kennesaw Election Post I: Gollahon vs. Welsh
Kennesaw has become sandwiched between Acworth and Marietta. We should have been actively pursuing annexation as development occurred. THIS DID NOT HAPPEN! I have looked at some of the problems and have a New Vision with programs such as LEEDs and P.A.C.E. which will help to revitalize our City. My opponent has served on various committees including the Kennesaw Development Authority “KDA” and even as a member of Council for over two years and nothing has been done. Kennesaw is still a ghost town. Why is Downtown not being developed but the perimeter/outskirts are? Why is that?
Our downtown area has deteriorated from a once-thriving business community to a ghost town. Yet, our Mayor and Council close Main Street for races and festivals and one of the few Downtown businesses remaining like the Superette, suffer financially from this decision.
I would vote NO for the TSPLOST. Why? Families are out of work, they have gone through their savings, and unemployment and foreclosures are at their highest at this time. Every taxpayer is expected to pay for the TSPLOST when they are barely surviving. Those on the TSPLOST Roundtable and including our Mayor and Council support this tax increase. Why aren’t they listening to us, the citizens?
Why did my opponent support the SPLOST? We were told there would be no tax increase but after the SPLOST was passed there was a county wide millage increase which included Kennesaw. The tax revenue the City of Kennesaw collected belongs to all of us and it should be spent wisely. We owe it to our dedicated City employees and our citizens to operate the City on a well-thought out and sustainable budget. Why did the Mayor and Council spend $60K to move the community house back to put in a turn around for bus parking in these economic times? I find it interesting that the Mayor and Council also approved an expenditure of three quarter of a million dollars for a skate park instead of building the turn lane at Old Pine Mountain Road and Hwy 41 (next to the QT) approved by the voters in the 2011 SPLOST. This type of frivolous expenditure does not make sense.
On November 8, I need your vote and support to help me work towards revitalizing our City. For more information, please visit www.electkimgollahon.com.
CHRIS WELSH (Incumbent):
“The challenge of leadership is to be strong, but not rude; be kind, but not weak; be bold, but not bully; be thoughtful, but not lazy; be humble, but not timid; be proud, but not arrogant; have humor, but without folly.” – Jim Rohn
As we traverse the next few years it is important to get back to the basics. I believe the most important thing we as a community can do is to encourage people to get involved who have never been involved before, to diligently focus on revitalization and redevelopment of our older neighborhoods and our downtown and to treat our fellow citizens with courtesy, dignity and respect, regardless of differing opinions.
Two years ago the opportunity presented itself to serve the citizens of Kennesaw as their City Council Representative for Post 1. It has been an honor to serve the city of Kennesaw and you for the past two years. The great amount of support I am receiving from the residents of Kennesaw, both within the city and outside the city limits is very humbling.
I look forward to an exciting race leading up to the election on November 8th. I am a true believer in people having the opportunity to choose who represents them through an election of two or more candidates.
The voting public holds the decisions and future for our city in their hands, and I have the faith that they will elect the candidate they believe will represent their views, voice and vision for Kennesaw. Please feel free to contact me at 770-355-2588, I will gladly answer any questions you have. Also, check my website to learn my focus and how I plan to represent and serve you. (www.CrisForCouncil.com) Keep an eye out around town for the Cris Mobile as I visit all of our neighborhoods!
The most important thing you and your neighbors can do is get out and vote for Cris! on November 8th. Local Representation and Local elections are where you are affected the most. I will only ever promise you two things, I will listen and I will be available.
