Kennesaw Election Post 2: Dickens vs. Killingsworth

Submitted by on October 25, 2011 – 9:55 pmNo Comment |

Jimmy Dickens

JIMMY DICKENS:

I have always been interested in working with the city of Kennesaw.

I have not only been a resident for the past six years but I have also owned and operated a successful business (Amazing Cuts Barbershop) in the city for the past five years.

Representing both entities has afforded me the opportunity to get involved in the city on multiple levels and I am very interested in being a link to the residents as well as an agent of change for the city.

In my opinion, we live in one of the greatest cities of the world. Kennesaw is the home of one of the third largest institutions in the University System of Georgia, safe and attractive neighborhoods, a thriving educational system, great parks, and an atmosphere that attracts diverse families.

The Kennesaw police effectively control crime and the Kennesaw Business Association (KBA) is a great avenue for networking.

With all the aforementioned assets in the community, I believe I could assist the city by strengthening and/or creating various programs:

•  Increased activities for families
•   Expansion of the public library
•  Community center with afterschool programs and an indoor basketball court
•  Mentoring programs for troubled youth
•  Economic recovery programs
•  Creation of employment opportunities

Tim Killingsworth

TIM KILLINGSWORTH (Incumbent):
I’m a veteran Kennesaw City Councilman, a retired United States Marine, and was first elected to the Kennesaw City Council in November of 2007. As I near the completion of my first term, I believe the time is right to seek re-election.
I have had 4 very successful years as a City Councilman and I believe that my experience in the military, as a small business owner and as a local government official have provided me with a unique perspective and skill set to continue to help move the city forward.
I believe Kennesaw is at a pivotal point in its history. What occurs in the next 5 to 10 years in terms of how we deal with our most pressing issues will affect the quality of life for Kennesaw residents for many generations. I will provide the vision and strong conservative fiscal leadership necessary to not only improve and enhance the life of our current residents and business owners, but to chart a strong course for the positive growth of Kennesaw.
I’m committed to working with other agencies and institutions both within and outside of the city limits of Kennesaw to ensure that no opportunities for collaboration are missed.
Partnering with Cobb County, the Chamber of Commerce, Kennesaw State University, the City of Acworth, other cities or government agencies is vital to the long term financial stability and livability of our community.
We have all been affected by the national economic downturn and the lack of growth and development taking place around us in Cobb County and metro Atlanta.  As a city, we need to begin to think more regionally and deal with these issues together.  If elected to serve a second term on the Kennesaw City Council, my commitment is to continue to work and improve the quality of life for the residents, business owners, military veterans and the youth of Kennesaw.  If you have not been to a council meeting I encourage you to attend to get a better understanding of how I work, as well as how the City government operates. Talk to your friends, your neighbors and your co-workers.  Get involved!  I welcome your emails with questions, comments or concerns.  I can be reached at tim@timkillingsworth.com.
